Who
GERT TERNY is a man of many interests. He has two big passions: the first one is the functioning of the voice and the human body, his second one is theatre. He studied acting at drama school and kinetics at the ‘Lea Daan School of Dance’. His eagerness to know everything about human behaviour and his love for language led him to courses in journalism, theatre science and psychology. In 1999, due to his passion, he became Laureaat van de Belgische stichting "Roeping” (Belgian Foundation for Vocations). Thus he won a scholarship to study in London at the “Voice and Speech Centre” of the world famous Patsy Rodenburg. Afterwards he went to the US to some of the most prominent voice and theatre pedagogues in the world: Arthur Lessac in Mercersburg (www.lessacinstitute.com ) and Catherine Fitzmaurice in New York (www.fitzmauricevoice.com ).
Meanwhile he featured as an actor in Flemish and Dutch theatres, shortfilms and soaps. He directed numerous theatre productions and manifestations. He also worked for the educational service of the “Royal Opera House la Monnaie” in Brussels.
He teaches at the drama department of the Royal Conservatory in Ghent and the Broadway Academy (musicals) in Amsterdam. He functions as a voice and presentation coach for VRT - radio and TV, organises workshops, and holds lectures for colleges and universities. He works for institutions such as the theatre federation “Open Doek” and “Koor en Stem” (choir and voice).
Within `VoiceFactory he organises workshops for schools, companies and theatre companies. He concentrates on voice-research and movement therapy.
